
The Art of War: Ukrainian Soldier Has His First Art Exhibition During Edinburgh Festival While on the Front Lines
While war may bring out the worst in both humanity and the world around us, some try to find beauty in the darkest of times. Oleska Koba is one of those incredible few. Discovering his special talent in painting, Koba uses his art to depict Ukraine as he currently sees it - with most of his art being painted while at the front. Through the help of friends living in Scotland, Koba was able to exhibit his work at the Edinburgh Fringe in the summer of 2023. This article was originally written in August 2023 as part of a larger research project.

This article documents my first-hand experience travelling with Jeeps for Peace on one of their routine convoys from Edinburgh to Ukraine. The road is long, the destination is dangerous, but all those taking part face the challenge with a smile, safe in the knowledge that they are helping make a difference.
